Diamond Turning Services

NiPro Optics provides a full spectrum of precision manufacturing options to meet the demanding requirements of your optical project. With the use of single point diamond turning (SPDT), we have expanded our product offerings, and enhanced the quality of our core reflector and ophthalmic mold lines.

We apply 2 and 3 axis capabilities with the slow servo option to produce complex coordinate geometries in a variety of plastics and metals. Typical applications for diamond-turned finished optics include mirrors, reflectors, micro-optics, lens arrays, mold inserts, mandrels, and optical assemblies with many design parameters. Surfaces can be free form, aspheric, biconic, toric, fresnel, off-axis, and rotationally or non-rotationally symmetric.

Manufacturing Synergies

Electroforming

Diamond turning is well suited to development and prototype work. When volume requirements are low or precision needs are very demanding, it is often the complete solution for your manufacturing project.

When higher production volumes are needed and economic considerations are a factor, the diamond turned part can be used as a replication tool. If specifications are aligned properly with the process, electroforming is an excellent choice for production of nickel components with the optical and surface quality characteristics of the diamond turned master form.

NiPro Optics developed the world ophthalmic market for nickel casting molds – our electroforming expertise is unmatched in the industry.

Ophthalmic

For injection molding applications, ophthalmic inserts produced through SPDT create a new quality standard for multifocal, free form, and aspheric lens production. Through the use of diamond turning, sub-nanometer form accuracy and angstrom level surface quality are often achievable goals.

Reflectors

The use of SPDT technology is also the perfect complement to our lines of electroformed reflectors. Focused light applications will benefit from increased form accuracy. As a number of end market segments shift their focus to uniform brightness and color initiatives, SPDT will lead the way in reflector innovation.

Coatings

When a manufactured part requires an optical coating, NiPro Optics will complete the work at our Tustin facility. We provide a full array of metallic and dielectric coatings, including several proprietary options which are available to our customers.
